The Green Dot Trail is a 4 km trek through the jungle terrain from Haad Rin to Haad Thien. If you're standing behind Phangan Bayshore Resort and start walking towards the hills you will see a sign saying Laluna Bungalow as you reach the jungle. This is where the trail starts. The trail ends at The Sanctuary Resort in Haad Thien.
Trekking the Green Dot Trail from Haad Rin to Haad Yuan
The whole trek takes 1-2 hours, and it's easy to find your way. There are green dots painted on trees that will lead your way. As you have managed the first and steepest part of the trail you will get out on an open area where it can be a bit confusing, but just follow the blue water pipes and you will soon get out on a road. Follow this road for 5 minutes and pass the concrete water channel. On your right side you will see a small stream you will have to cross, and then just follow the green dots again.
Stunning view of Haad Yuan, Haad Thien and Haad Why Nam
As you reach the top of the ridge, keep your eyes open for an orange arrow pointing out an excellent viewpoint with a stunning view of the bays of Haad Yuan, Haad Thien and Haad Why Nam.
Along the trail you'll be able to spot all kinds of wildlife, such as birds, snakes, monkeys and lizards. Water is a must for this trip, so take plenty and drink often to avoid dehydration. It's recommended that you don't start the trail after 4 pm, one the mosquitoes will eat you alive and two it's no fun getting lost in the dark. We hope you'll enjoy the trail as we did.
Khao Ra, Koh Phangan's highest mountain peak
Khao Ra, 627 m above sea level and the highest mountain peak of Koh Phangan.
The viewpoint at the top of Khao Ra offers some most spectacular views around the island. The trail, which takes approximately 2 hours to climb, has a few spots that leave you guessing. That is why we recommend hiring a guide. Guides are available at Phaeng Waterfall National Park. This guide service costs about 500 Baht per trip. The trek is very steep at times, but has many trees that offer a nice umbrella of shade almost the entire way.
Trekking in Koh Phangan
The trail begins at Ban Madue Wan on the road heading north out of Thong Sala. On the way up the mountain you pass by a stream with a large rock pool, which can be refreshing with plenty of water during the rainy season. Remember to bring enough water, I mean a large bottle should be just enough. Like all other trails in Phangan, remember to give yourself enough time to complete the journey before sundown. Please remember to keep the trails clean.
